Mother: Meeting the Matriarchs of Genesis
A new feminist Torah study course
“Mother” is an introductory Torah study class based on the stories of the Matriarchs of Genesis. Learning about the Matriarchs opened the Torah to me in many ways and led me to feminist Torah scholarship. The Matriarchs’ stories are deeper and more complex than is often appreciated, their determination and foresightedness unsung.
This course is intended for those who are starting to learn Torah and are interested in expanding their knowledge and interpretation techniques. While particularly inspired by Savina Tuebal and her influential book Sarah the Priestess, this course draws from a range of feminist Torah scholarship. Students may learn some Hebrew vocabulary along the way, but Torah portions will be read in English translation and no knowledge of Hebrew is necessary.
There will be 9 classes starting October 22, meeting Wednesdays at 12 pm EST / 9 am PST on Zoom for 1.5 hours. Classes will be recorded and recordings made available. Fees are sliding scale $270-$360 CAD.
If you have the means, choosing a higher rate helps make the class more accessible for others. If these rates are completely outside of your means, use the contact form below to ask about financial aid.
Looking forward to joining you under the terebinths,
